If you need a job where you are left alone, or where nothing ever changes, this is not the job for you. Communication and responsiveness are key. About Northwest Wine Accounting
Northwest Wine Accounting is a 100% remote, outsourced accounting firm specializing in the wine industry. We provide comprehensive bookkeeping, controllership, and CFO services tailored to the unique needs of small wineries. Our mission is to serve as a full "outsourced accounting department" for our clients, helping them navigate the complexities of the industry with confidence.
The Role
In this role, you’ll own the accounting function for a small portfolio of winery clients. With the support of a bookkeeper or staff accountant, you’ll fully own your clients’ accounting work end to end, from onboarding and historical cleanup through ongoing month-end close, reporting, and client conversations.
Your work will span the full scope of winery accounting, including cost accounting, sales tax, payroll oversight, coordination with external tax preparers, and custom reporting as needed. You’ll be responsible for reviewing and directing the work of bookkeepers or staff accountants on your clients, exercising independent judgment and determining when issues require escalation.
You’ll meet regularly with clients to walk through financials, improve systems, and resolve issues in a way that builds trust and confidence. This is a hands-on, technical role for someone who enjoys owning complex work, thinking holistically, exercising judgment, and collaborating with other experienced professionals
The ideal candidate will have winery accounting experience at the controller level, be comfortable supporting multiple clients and managing competing priorities, and brings a deep commitment to exceptional client service. You’ll thrive in this role if you’re adaptable, solutions-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple projects. Familiarity with the unique challenges faced by winery owners and the nuances of wine accounting is a must.
