Winery Accounting Services

Bookkeeping, payroll, and compliance for your winery.

Running a winery is a complicated business. A lot happens from vineyard to bottle to customer. Your operations might include farming, manufacturing, retail, e-commerce, event production, restaurant service, and more.

Our accounting team is experienced with the nuance of winery businesses. We’ve seen it all. If your accounting function has gotten a bit chaotic, we are ready to dive in to provide some relief.

Winery accounting can be complicated. We’re here to make it easier.

Get all your winery accounting needs met in one place.

Based on our experience working with small wineries, we have put together a suite of services to make sure your core needs are met when it comes to bookkeeping and accounting.

We go beyond processing transactions to include accounting technology, support monthly wine cost calculations, inventory reconciliation support, POS wrangling, sales and excise tax compliance in every winery package.

These are the services your small winery needs: delivered with compassion, reliability, and simple, transparent pricing.

What’s included in Core Accounting Services?

✱ Dedicated accounting team: Dedicated accounting manager and accounting specialist; accounting system management, accounting technology support; and unlimited phone, email, and Zoom support on all included services.

Bookkeeping: Digital receipt management, weekly transaction coding, POS support and reconciliation, full month-end close. We can also add accounts payable and accounts receivable support when you are ready.

✱ Payroll support: Set up of Gusto, training and support on processing payroll, all payroll tax filings, assistance in onboarding and offboarding employees, integration between Gusto and QBO, setting up and reconciling benefits, basic HR questions, time tracking guidance. Gusto fees are not included.

Sales and excise tax: Sales and excise tax filings for Washington and California. That includes compliance with the WA DOR, CDTFA, TTB and WSLCB. We also include 1099 filings, business maintenance filings, and Registered Agent Services in Washington state. (Note that we do not handle winery permitting, liquor licensing, or label compliance.)

Monthly wine costing: Inventory reconciliation and valuation for bulk wine and bottled wine, inventory depletions for sales and samples, average bulk wine costs per gallon, average bottled wine costs per case, margins on wine per channel.

✱ Monthly reporting: We do a robust month-end close and send out a clean accrual-basis P&L and balance sheet each month.

✱ Tax-ready books: We coordinate directly with your tax preparer to make sure they have everything they need for tax time.

Navigate winery accounting technology with confidence.

We partner with tech you already use. Plus we can introduce you to some great new apps to streamline information exchange.

We tend to nerd out a little on all the tech options out there. But whenever we are consulting on technology, we always keep human experience in mind. You don’t need an accounting bot. You need an expert team to help you navigate a complicated and exciting world.

Every new winery client gets special care during onboarding.

We start by building a strong foundation of clean books, streamlined systems, and solid communications. We make sure you understand how best to work with us, how to access your information, and how to get the most out of your reports.
